There have been a lot of rumblings about the new administration’s plans to impose a variety of tariffs and other possible steps that may put price pressure on some of the products in our industry – specifically steel and aluminum.

Some of these steps may also put pressure on raw materials used in the manufacturing of roofing and sheet metal products. With this, T&K has been notified by a number of manufacturers of anticipatory price increases on a large array of products.

These increases range from 4-10% for some low sloped roofing products with the potential for 25% increases in steel products such as standing seam metal panels, flat stock metals used in fabrications of gutters, copings, other roof related metals, and the mechanical fasteners and plates used for roofing system attachment. Obviously, some of these impacts could be relatively substantial depending on the type of roofing and sheet metal project.

The GOOD NEWS so far is that we’ve heard of little or no impact on supply chain processes that could impact product availability. NO ONE wants to experience the supply chain issues of a couple years ago.

Here at T&K we continue to monitor all of these events as best we can. There appears to be a lot of moving parts, and we fully expect things to change constantly as we move forward.

We have taken positive steps to protect our current backlogged projects, and are working with our manufacturer partners on steps we can take to minimize or eliminate any negative impacts on the projects we have under contract.

If you are seriously considering a project for 2025, we’d encourage you to reach out to see what steps can be taken to protect your project and it’s budget from some of these changing conditions.
